“If I didn’t define myself for myself, I would be crunched into other people’s fantasies for me and eaten alive.”

― Audre Lorde

Vanessa here with an overdue update on all things BQMNY & jewelry! Life has been doing it’s thing & with all that’s happening in the world I hope that you’ve been able to root into joy, resistance, & rest this season. Here’s a glimpse of some of my joy & personal wins these past few months:

I’m happy to share that three amazing projects that I’m apart of unveiled this year.

1. Vanessa won her first jewelry award and is a 2024 One for the Future Honoree presented by NYJW

2. Women in Jewelry Who Rock: A Portrait Series by Elyssa Pérez & Alice Prenat

The book features stunning photos of incredible women in the jewelry industry and our stories

3. Everybody’s Bolos: Inclusion Through Craft curated by Ana M Lopez, Hannah Toussaint, & B. Fleetwood

My submission to the Everybody’s Bolos Exhibition is the “Let the Overflow be Enough” Bolo Tie. I root into spirituality, looking to Yemoja & symbolism to explore the relationship between lack, abundance, & overachieving.

The exhibit will begin in January 2024 through 2025 at the University of North Texas in Denton (UNT), the Fuller Craft Museum in Brockton, MA & the Hecho A Mano gallery in Santa Fe, NM.
